Mother Trucker

Last night I stopped by the Rhythm Room to hear a band I've been hearing alot about, The Mother Truckers so I thought it was about time to go check them out! As I walked into the bar it was very low lit, with just the neon signs around the bar. The bartenders were great! I don't think I had to wait more than two seconds till one of them at least say hey and head my way.

The Rusty Gun Revival
Band Articles/Interviews By whiskeychick on 5/12/2007 8:16 AM
Sometimes what you see is not what you get... and it's a damned good thing! I stumbled accross the band Rusty Gun Revival a while back and saw that their leading photo was the typical 3 piece ensemble with the stand-up bass and so I just moseyed right along. Now let me tell you that out here in the southwest you've got a new band every week who runs out and finds a stand-up-bassist, slaps a name on their group like "Big Jane and the Armadillo Bandits" or something equally cliche and proceeds with a predictable cheap knockoff of some really great (but over-copied) rockabilly pioneers. Next thing you know the same 20 pompadored and betty-banged fanatics are flocking to their shows and drownin themselves in enough PBR to make em sound like a well-oiled machine.

My first night out with the newest DH Girl, Miss HoneyBee
Reviews By whiskeychick on 5/7/2007 9:39 PM
So in Ump's travels accross the heathen-filled southwest he found himself a lil' saint of a mormon we just HAD to corrupt with some rockin, some rollin, and maybe a lil' moonshine. Next thing I know she's throwin down her hymn books and speedin' down the highway to a life of sin and serious debauchery. I took her out Friday night to break her DH Girl virginity. She wrote a piece about it. Like to read it? Here it goes!

Rhinestoned

Rhinestoned says it all.
No other word, real or invented for the occasion, sums up as well where Pam Tillis stands now. She is, after all, a superstar as well as a survivor. A child of Music City royalty and a former rebel, she was determined to find her own way as a singer and songwriter — and she succeeded. A CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, she has written songs for some of the top singers in and beyond Nashville, including more than a few of her own hits.

The Demise of the Rockstar
Band Articles/Interviews By whiskeychick on 2/22/2007 9:22 PM

So here I was toolin around town with my best friend, partner in crime, and fellow Drunken Hillbilly when he made the comment that there are no more innovators in music today. No more Beatles. No more Deville's. No more Lynard Skynards or Doors or even Rolling Stones. There are no bands on today's radio that stand a chance of becoming the next legend. Do you know who he blames? The fans...

Findin "Home" Again
By whiskeychick on 11/11/2006 1:59 PM
Well, like the story of my life, it's time to pack up and move on. This time I'm just going a few miles from where I'm at now, but it's to a place that is so unlike my current "mamma's ranch" that I'm havin a hard time picturing how I'll fit in. Or how my neighbors will learn to put up with me.

Drunkenhillbilly Legends: Dan Baird

Anyone remember owning the self-titled debut from The Georgia Satellites on cassette back in the 1980s? If not, then you at least heard 'Keep Your Hands to Yourself' a zillion times back then and chances are great that to this day, you'll hear the song at just about any neighborhood bar that hosts cover bands. Yeah, it was actually a decent song with a cool video that not only played on MTV and FM radio a little too often but even crossed over and aired on CMT (Country Music Television).
