The “Hick-Hop” disgrace!
At what point should I begin to puke? Troy Coleman, a “cowboy” straight out of Dallas Texas who credits his music to every possible genre around. You might better recognize him by his stage name, Cowboy Troy, a man that is so un-county that he has to say he is a cowboy so people know. When I hear one of his songs I cringe… here we have a man that can’t write lyrics good enough to make it in the rap/hip-hop industry so he brings his cheesy lyrics and repulsive rhymes to mainstream country and enough people eat it up to get him a record deal. Let me give you a sample from his first hit, at least the first one I heard…
"Hold 'em up! Here we go!
All the hicks and chicks feel the flow
Big black train comin 'round the bend
Gwone kinfolk tell ya mamanem
Chug-a-lugga, chug-a-lugga, chug-a-lugga who?
The big blackneck comin' through to you
Boy you done fell and bumped your head
Uh huh that's what they said
People said it's impossible,
Not probable, too radical
But I already been on the CMA's
Hell Tim McGraw said he like the change
And he likes the way my hick-hop sounds
And the way the crowd screams when I stomp the ground
I'm big and black, clickety-clack
And I make the train jump the track like that"
Coining phrases such as “hick-hop” and “blackneck” this man thinks he can “serve as a bridge between the music and the listener.” Whatever the hell that means! If I want to listen to rap I will turn on MTV, if I want to listen to country I will turn on CMT, and if I want to listen to shit that masquerades as country music… oh wait… that’s when I change the channel or station I am listening to. Funny thing is I really never hear him on the radio… radio would in fact be perfect in this respect if they reserved their desire to play Trace Adkins “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk,” yet another disgrace to the country music industry.
Truth be told, I quit watching MTV and VH1 because all you saw were scantily clad women shaking their asses to songs with less than impressive lyrics and now my safe haven, country music channels and stations are being overrun by the very crap I was trying to get away from. I love my country music… I was a late bloomer but I know crappy music when I hear it and someone needs to put an end to it, fast! Boycott it, protest it, I don’t care just don’t buy it! What makes it deserve a place in country? Is it because the men singing these songs dress country? Is it because these men fill their videos with trashy women?
Even K SWG 96.3, a radio station our Head Hillbilly UmpUmp has recently come to love, threw him a disappointing curve when they played “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” and it will be worse if next on their play list comes one of Cowboy Troy’s musical disgraces. KNIX and KMLE have been guilty of this to a much greater extent but it is not surprising seeing as they cater to finding the next big thing to push onto the entertainment hungry fans. I am just hoping it is a moment in history that will die quickly.
